Opioid use disorder in chronic non-cancer pain in Germany: A cross sectional study
BMJ Open Apr 08, 2019
Just JM, et al. - In this cross-sectional questionnaire study conducted at four outpatient pain clinics in Germany, researchers determined which proportion of patients with chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) on long-term opioid therapy exhibit opioid use disorder (OUD). The study sample consisted of 204 patients. All adults who participated in opioid pain therapy > 6 months for CNCP were included. OUD was diagnosed in 26.5% of patients, with moderate-to-severe disorder present in 9.3%. A statistically significant correlation was identified between young age and OUD. Espectially in patients with moderate-to-severe disorder, the authors advised careful follow-up by attending physicians.
