Opioid prescribing practices of orthopaedic surgeons: Results of a national survey
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Feb 15, 2019
Raneses E, et al. - Investigators estimated the data to evaluate the opioid prescribing practices of orthopedic surgeons. Hydrocodone/acetaminophen was the most commonly prescribed opioid for both teenagers and adults. About 42.3% of physicians reported that patients developed an opioid dependency, whereas 35.3% do not assume opioid use as a problem in their practice. They observed that 30.3% of physicians inscribed prescribing refills, and factors significantly correlated with enhanced prescribing of refills involved a greater number of years in practice and practicing in a suburban rather than an urban or rural environment.
