Operative vs non-operative treatment for isolated Mason type 2 radial head fractures: A multicenter randomized controlled trial
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Mar 28, 2021
Mulders MAM, de Muinck Keizer RJO, Schep NWL, et al. - In view of controversies concerning the optimal treatment of isolated displaced partial articular radial head fractures, researchers conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing the functional outcome of operative treatment with non-operative treatment in adults with an isolated Mason type 2 radial head fractures. This multicenter randomized controlled trial was performed including 45 patients; 23 of these patients were randomized to open reduction and screw fixation and 22 were randomized to non-operative treatment with a pressure bandage. Functional results among non-operatively treated adults with an isolated Mason type 2 radial head fracture were comparable to those of operatively treated patients. Moreover, low complication rates were observed for both operative and non-operative treatment.
