Open vs laparoscopic hepatic resection for hepatocellular carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Surgical Endoscopy Jul 21, 2019
Xiangfei M, et al. - A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies comparing laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) vs open liver resection (OLR) for hepatocellular carcinoma was conducted. Inclusion of 51 studies with a total of 6,812 patients (2,786 patients underwent LLR and 4,026 patients had OLR) was done. Outcomes support the superiority of LLR to OLR in terms of intraoperative blood loss, blood transfusion rate, hospital stay in days, 30-days mortality and morbidity. The 1-year overall survival (1-OS) and 5-OS rates were significantly higher in LLR vs OLR. Researchers suggest performing randomized controlled trials to recognize the superiority of either strategy.
