Open versus closed treatment of distal tibia physeal fractures: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology | Oct 26, 2017
Asad WA, et al. - This study compared open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) to closed treatment for distal tibia physeal fractures, in terms of rates of premature physeal closure (PPC). The current cumulative evidence produced via this systematic review of the literature did not indicate a link between the method of treatment of distal tibia physeal fractures and the risk of PPC. Data demonstrated the feasibility of both treatment approaches, though it was also noted that less surgical-related complications were associated with closed treatment.
