Open and minimally invasive pancreatic neoplasms enucleation: A systematic review
Surgical Endoscopy Sep 09, 2019
Valle RD, et al. - Via performing a systematic review, researchers investigated perioperative outcomes of pancreatic enucleation (pEN). Further, they examined how minimally invasive techniques influence perioperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) rate and other surgical complications. They identified, 63 relevant studies for inclusion; these studied accounted for a study population of 2,485 patients. Outcomes establish that for the treatment of small benign or low-grade pancreatic neoplasms, pEN is a safe and feasible technique with an acceptable morbidity rate and low mortality. An increase in the widespread acceptance of the minimally invasive approach was observed due to its supposed non-inferiority compared with the traditional open approach. In this review, they noted even better results in terms of POPF incidence rate and short-term postoperative outcome with this approach.
