One-year results with selective bladder denervation in women with refractory overactive bladder
Neurourology and Urodynamics Aug 02, 2019
Rovner ES, et al. - Via a prospective, international, multicenter case series of women with refractory overactive bladder (OAB) who underwent single selective bladder denervation (SBD) treatment of the bladder subtrigone region using temperature-controlled radiofrequency, the researchers intended to report 1-year outcomes with SBD of the trigone in women with OAB. Twenty-nine out of 35 women returned for 1-year follow up. With the majority of treatment advantage realized in the first month, median symptom decreases on the basis of 3-day bladder diaries were 68%, 67%, 43%, 5% and 33% for urgency urinary incontinence, urinary incontinence, urgency episodes, urinary frequency, and the total urgency and frequency score, respectively. In 72%, 69% and, 10% of patients, respectively, treatment advantage, clinical success rate, and the dry rate were reported. On Symptom Bother and Health-related Quality of Life scales on the Overactive Bladder questionnaire, and on 6 of 9 King's Health Questionnaire domains, statistically important advances occurred. In comparison with those with more severe baseline symptoms, patients with less severe baseline symptoms had a comparable quality of life improvements. In six patients, device- or procedure-related adverse events were reported. Therefore, in a notable proportion of women with refractory overactive bladder, a single treatment with selective bladder denervation was enduring for 1-year.
