Oncological and functional outcomes of transoral laser surgery for laryngeal carcinoma
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Jun 10, 2018
Pedregal-Mallo D, et al. - Authors evaluated the oncological and functional results of transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) in treating laryngeal tumors at their hospital. They reviewed patient cases with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) treated from 1998 to 2013 with TLM with curative intention and with a minimum follow-up of 24 months. As per data, for early and moderately-advanced laryngeal carcinomas, TLM was a minimally invasive treatment, having good oncologic and functional outcomes and few complications. Initial local control was attained in 75.5% of patients, with a 5-year overall survival rate of 84% and a 5-year disease-specific survival rate of 90%.
