Oncologic safety of prophylactic nipple-sparing mastectomy in a population with BRCA mutations: A multi-institutional study
JAMA Surgery Feb 27, 2018
Jakub JW, et al. - In this study, the oncologic safety of nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) was reported and evidence-based data were provided to patients and health care professionals regarding preservation of the nipple-areolar complex during a risk-reducing mastectomy in a population with BRCA mutations. It was observed that in a BRCA population, nipple-sparing mastectomies are highly preventive against breast cancer. It was recommended offering NSM as a breast cancer risk–reducing strategy to appropriate patients with BRCA mutations.
