Oncologic outcomes following laparoscopic colon cancer resection for T4 lesions: A caseâcontrol analysis of 7-years' experience
Surgical Endoscopy Aug 31, 2017
Leon P, et al. – Researchers retrospectively analyzed oncologic outcomes following laparoscopic colon cancer resection for T4 lesions. For locally advanced colon cancer, laparoscopic approach could be safe and acceptable. This approach seemed not jeopardizing the oncologic results. They suggest considering conversion to open surgery as a part of a strategy as it did not seem to adversely affect perioperative and long–term outcomes. As per them, laparoscopy, in expert hands, could be considered as the last diagnostic tool and the first therapeutic approach for well–selected locally advanced colon cancers. They recommend larger prospective studies to widely assess this issue.
