Kamath V, et al. - Researchers here investigated odor identification, odor discrimination, detection threshold, and odor hedonic processing performance in individuals with bipolar I disorder, bipolar II disorder, major depressive disorder (MDD), anxiety, and no mental disorder who participated in a community-based family study. Findings suggested that in mood disorders, odor identification difficulties could exist, especially in the presence of psychotic features. On the other hand, schizophrenia-related global olfactory dysfunction might not be a feature of other neuropsychiatric conditions.
