Olfactory dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease– and Lewy body–related cognitive impairment
Alzheimer's & Dementia Jun 27, 2018
Yoo HS, et al. - Given that olfactory dysfunction is common in Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body-related disorders, researchers clarified its neural correlates in this analysis. Two hundred thirty-seven subjects with Alzheimer's disease-related cognitive impairment (ADCI) and 217 with Lewy body-related cognitive impairment (LBCI) were retrospectively enrolled. More severe olfactory dysfunction was seen with LBCI vs ADCI. Patients with worse olfactory function had more severe cognitive dysfunction in both groups. The findings from the present study suggested that cortical atrophy in ADCI and white matter abnormalities in LBCI play important roles in olfactory dysfunction.
