Lilja M, et al. - In this trial, the researchers evaluated the effects of a tumour and treatment-related factors in the individuals with cancer of head and neck on the olfactory and gustatory functions. The postoperative taste problems were associated with the impairment on the taste sensation in the tongue, in oral and pharyngeal cancer patients, but not with the sense of smell. Furthermore, the impairment in the quality of life was not clearly related to the impaired sense of taste.
