Older age is associated with less cancer treatment: A longitudinal study of English cancer patients
Age and Aging Jul 09, 2018
Craigs CL, et al. - Experts evaluated the relationship between age and care experiences from diagnosis to death for cancer patients within the UK. Adult cancer patients who died between January 2005 and December 2011 were assessed for this study. Findings suggested a lower likelihood of older patients to receive cancer therapies or hospital palliative care before death. Overall, they noted an increase in the percentage of patients receiving chemotherapy, surgery, hospital palliative care referrals, and hospital admissions, whereas deaths in hospital have decreased. For patients aged 80 years and over, deaths at home have increased.
