Office blood pressure values and the necessity of out-of-office measurements in high-risk pregnancies
Journal of Hypertension Aug 06, 2019
Salazar MR, Espeche WG, Balbín E, et al. - Among women in the second half of high-risk pregnancies, this prospective cohort investigation was undertaken to identify an office blood pressure (BP) value below which out-of-office measurements are unnecessary in such women. Researchers performed office BP measurements and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Overall 373 women (30 ± 7 years with 32 ± 4 weeks of gestation) were analyzed. The development of reeclampsia/eclampsia was reported in 69 women (18.5%). In this study population, masked hypertension was identified as a prevalent and high-risk condition. In high-risk pregnancies, the suitability of office BP at least 125/75 mmHg in the second half of gestation was suggested to indicate out-of-office measurements.
