OCT angiography features of neovascularization as predictive factors for frequent recurrence in age-related macular degeneration
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jan 23, 2020
Choi M, et al. - Using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) according to the treatment interval of intravitreal aflibercept injection (IVI), researchers studied the characteristics of neovascularization (NV) in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (NVAMD). For this retrospective, interventional, comparative case series, type 1 NV patients treated with the “pro-re-nata” regimen were classified into two groups based on the numbers of treatments during 12 months, namely a stable group who required less than two injections and an unstable group who required more than three injections. For the unstable group, a predictive model with an endpoint index showed a sensitivity of 93.75% and a negative predictive value of 89.47%. According to treatment requirements, the features of NV in eyes of exudative AMD with type 1 NV were different. For predicting clinical outcomes and optimal treatment intervals, identifying the features of NV on OCTA could be beneficial.
