Occupational physical activity and new-onset hypertension: A nationwide cohort study in China
Hypertension Jun 04, 2021
Li Q, Li R, Zhang S, et al. - This investigation was carried out among Chinese males and females, to assess the prospective associations of occupational physical activity (OPA) and new-onset hypertension. Participants were selected from the CHNS study (China Health and Nutrition Survey), and included 9,350 adults who were free of hypertension at baseline. Hypertension was experienced by 2949 participants, as noted during a median of 6.1 years (82 410 person-years) of follow-up. It was found that both males and females had a lower risk of new-onset hypertension in relation to moderate OPA in terms of both duration and intensity, whereas females were found to have elevated risk of new-onset hypertension in relation to heavy OPA.
