Occult gynecologic cancer in women undergoing hysterectomy or myomectomy for benign indications

Desai VB, et al. - The prevalence of corpus uteri, cervix uteri, and ovarian malignancies in women undergoing hysterectomies or myomectomies for benign indications by analyzing data from the 2014–2015 American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. Among these women, malignancies of the corpus uteri, cervix uteri, and ovary were observed in 1.44%, 0.60%, and 0.19% of cases, respectively. A considerable variation in prevalence with respect to patient age and surgical route was demonstrated. Furthermore, 0.21% of women undergoing myomectomies had occult corpus uteri cancer.
