Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria
Dermatologic Therapy Jul 29, 2020
Alatas ET, Unal Y, Pektas SD, et al. - In this investigation involving 31 patients, researchers intended to determine if there is an association between urticaria and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Participants in the study were patients who presented with chronic idiopathic urticaria. Body mass indexes have been calculated and polysomnography findings have been recorded. Epworth Sleepiness Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were utilized to assess daytime sleepiness. Using the urticaria activity score, the prevalence and severity of urticaria have been calculated. The authors discovered that OSAS incidence was higher in patients with urticaria than in the normal population. Doctors who treat urticaria should consider a comorbidity disease like OSAS and regulate the treatment according to these two diseases.
