Obstructive sleep apnea in cardiac rehabilitation patients
Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine Jul 18, 2018
Hupin D, et al. - Researchers ascertained if, in terms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disease and associated autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity, cardiac rehabilitation benefits post-myocardial infarction (MI) patients. They involved consecutive post-MI patients taking part in the ambulatory cardiac rehabilitation program of St-Etienne University Hospital. Through spontaneous baroreflex sensibility and heart rate variability analysis, ANS activity was assessed. Following 2 months of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, severe OSA in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) was significantly improved. The study findings suggested that reviving ANS activity via physical activity might be a target for complementary therapy of OSA in patients with CAD.
