Obstruction patterns during drug-induced sleep endoscopy vs natural sleep endoscopy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea
JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery Jul 03, 2019
Park D, et al. - In this prospective cohort study, researchers compared the obstruction patterns during drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) with the obstruction patterns during natural sleep endoscopy (NSE). The study sample consisted of 26 patients with snoring or obstructive sleep apnea. Data reported that the mean apnea-hypopnea index was 41.9 and the lowest mean oxygen saturation was 79.8%. The upper airway obstruction patterns seemed to be in agreement between DISE and NSE, indicating that DISE could be a credible test. These findings could be confirmed by future studies of multiple positions and sleep stages with larger sample sizes.
