Obstetric and neonatal complications among women with autoimmune disease
Journal of Autoimmunity May 31, 2019
Williams A, et al. - Among women with autoimmune disease, researchers examined obstetric and neonatal outcomes, including cesarean delivery, preterm birth, preeclampsia, small for gestational age (SGA), neonatal intensive care admission, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, and perinatal mortality risk, to gain critical insights for clinical management. They estimated relative risks and 95% confidence intervals, adjusting for maternal features and other chronic conditions, by using Poisson regression with robust standard errors. Most women with autoimmune disease had elevated preterm birth risk, despite the heterogeneity in autoimmune diseases. Increased risk for a wide range of adverse outcomes was evident in relation to the presence of SLE and T1DM. An increased risk for SGA was noted in relation to RA.
