Obstacles to diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease in the USA: A qualitative study

Hirsch AG, et al. - Using indepth telephone interviews, a qualitative interview study was conducted to identify themes around belated treatment, as well as to assess the application of the General Model of Total Patient Delay (GMTPD) to Lyme disease. Study participants were patients from a large, integrated health system in the state of Pennsylvania, USA. This study was conducted on 26 participants. Potentially modifiable risk factors for belated treatment were identified. The study findings suggested that targeting these risk factors could minimize time to treatment and lessen the occurrence of preventable complications.
