Observational study on the prognostic value of testosterone and adiposity in postmenopausal estrogen receptor positive breast cancer patients
BMC Cancer Jun 20, 2018
Venturelli E, et al. - Researchers assessed the prognostic value of circulating testosterone in association with patient’s body mass index (BMI) in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive postmenopausal breast cancer patients. To determine the influence of standard prognostic factors on relapse-specific hazard ratio (HR), Cox proportional hazard regression model was fitted. In normal-weight and overweight women, high testosterone levels related to worse prognosis were detected. However, in obese, high testosterone levels seemed to be related to a better outcome. These data suggested that higher risk of relapse in postmenopausal ER-positive patients could be detected with the help of circulating testosterone and BMI evaluation.
