Objectively measured physical activity and sedentary time among adults with and without stroke: A national cohort study
Stroke Sep 30, 2021
Duran AT, Pascual CB, Goldsmith J, et al. - Stroke survivors accrued a lower volume of physical activity (PA), higher volume of sedentary time, and showed accrual patterns of more prolonged sedentary bouts and shorter, lower intensity activity breaks than non-stroke survivors.
The REGARDS study (Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke) included 401 adults with an adjudicated or self-reported stroke and 1,203 age-, sex-, race-, region-of-residence-, and BMI-matched participants without a history of stroke.
When stroke survivors were compared with controls, sedentary time and mean sedentary bout duration were higher, and PA were lower.
Stroke survivors also had fewer activity breaks, which were shorter and lower in intensity than controls.
