Objective diagnosis of migraine without aura with migraine vascular index: A novel formula to assess vasomotor reactivity
Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Mar 13, 2020
Harris S, et al. - Experts performed a pilot study to develop an objective method for the diagnosis of migraine by measuring the difference in vasomotor reactivity between migraineurs and non-migraineurs. A total of 30 individuals diagnosed with migraines without aura and 30 healthy individuals were included. This study estimated the vasomotor reactivity of all individuals by measuring the breath-holding index (BHI), hyperventilation index and a novel formula, the migraine vascular index (MVI), of the middle cerebral artery using transcranial Doppler ultrasonography. The study found that MVI measurement is a secure method for objectively diagnosing migraines. To confirm the usage of MVI for migraine diagnosis, further study is required.
