Object-related aspiration deaths in children and adolescents in the United States, 1968 to 2017
JAMA Dec 11, 2019
Cramer JD, et al. - Researchers here focussed on object-related aspiration deaths in children and adolescents in the United States form 1968 to 2017. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the US Public Interest Research Group have made efforts to prevent aspiration in children. Beginning in 1969 with the Child Protection and Toy Safety Act, there was the establishment of regulations on the size of parts in products designed for children, choking hazard warning labels, and public awareness campaigns. For example, in 1979, there was a prohibition of products meant for young children from including small parts that can fit into a test cylinder almost the size of the upper aerodigestive tract of a child younger than 3 years.
