Jeschke E, et al. - In a large cohort study, experts studied the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the risk of postoperative complications, mortality, and revision rates after primary THA given other potentially confounding patient characteristics. The risk of revision rates was noted to be increased by the body-mass index in a linear trend. In order to reduce the body weight before elective surgery, patients with a BMI over 40 kg/m2 ought to be sent to obesity medicine physicians.
