Obesity does not increase operative time in otologic surgery: An analysis of 5,125 cases

Muelleman T, et al. - The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of body mass index (BMI) on the operative time taken in tympanoplasties and tympanomastoidectomies. Researchers found that the body habitus of obese patients could force the otologic surgeon to adapt. However, obese patients did not present with a statistically prominent longer mean operative time for tympanoplasties and tympanomastoidectomies when compared to patients with a lower BMI.
