Obesity as a key factor underlying idiopathic hyperaldosteronism
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Nov 17, 2018
Ohno Y, et al. - In this retrospective cross-sectional study, researchers clarified the differences between aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) and idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA) in obesity and metabolic disorders and gained insight into the pathogenesis of IHA. For this investigation, they evaluated the PA database established by the multicenter Japan Primary Aldosteronism Study. Data from 274 patients with essential hypertension (EHT) were also collected for comparative analysis. Despite lower PACs, IHA patients tend to be obese compared to APA patients. The results present show that obesity factors contribute to IHA pathogenesis. Factors related to obesity contribute to the IHA pathogenesis.
