Olivo RE, et al. - The Jackson Heart Study was carried out to gauge obesity and synergistic risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) in African American adults. In view of the higher risks associated with metabolically active visceral adipose volume and interactions with dietary quality, metabolic factors could be key determinants of obesity-associated CKD risk. This study encouraged to consider interactions between obesity and APOL1 genotype in studies of African Americans.
