Not only disease activity but also chronic hypertension and overweight are determinants of pregnancy outcomes in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
Lupus Apr 03, 2019
Normand G, et al. - Researchers estimated 84 pregnant women with lupus nephritis to study the factors correlated with maternal and fetal complications. They noted an overall fetal survival of 94.0%. Independent association of maternal pregnancy complications with prepregnancy body mass index >25 kg/m2 and immunological activity (positive anti-dsDNA antibodies or Farr assay lupus) was recorded. They also reported an independent correlation between renal lupus flares and maternal age as well as a prepregnancy immunological activity while the protective effect of remission time >12 months was also noticed. They found an association of prepregnancy body mass index >25 kg/m2, hypertension, and immunological activity with a higher risk of fetal prematurity or death.
