Normal adrenal and thyroid function in patients who survive COVID-19 infection
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism May 26, 2021
Clarke SA, Phylactou M, Patel B, et al. - Via performing a prospective, observational study, researchers herein investigated adrenal and thyroid gland function in COVID-19 survivors. Included were 70 patients ≥ 18 years at least 3 months after diagnosis of COVID-19. Findings revealed preservation of adrenal and thyroid function ≥ 3 months after presentation with COVID-19. Whilst persistent fatigue was reported in a significant proportion of patients, the symptoms were not accounted for by alterations in adrenal or thyroid function. These outcomes have relevant implications for the clinical care of patients following COVID-19.
