Nonselective compared with selective α-blockade is associated with less intraoperative hypertension in patients with pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas: A retrospective cohort study with propensity score matching
Anesthesia & Analgesia Dec 21, 2020
Kong H, Li N, Yang XC, et al. - Researchers undertook this propensity-matched retrospective cohort analysis to ascertain the link between the selection of α-blockade and the amount of intraoperative hypertension in patients receiving surgery for pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs). They obtained data from cases given either selective or nonselective α-blockade preoperatively and managed with surgery for PPGLs. The time-weighted average above the systolic blood pressure of 160 mm Hg was the primary endpoint. According to findings, less intraoperative hypertension was observed in relation to preoperative nonselective α-blockade vs selective α-blockade in patients undergoing surgery for PPGLs.
