Nonselective beta-blockers do not affect survival in cirrhotic patients with ascites
Digestive Diseases and Sciences May 10, 2018
Facciorusso A, et al. - Through a computerized bibliographic search on the main databases, researchers investigated the impact of nonselective beta-blockers as compared to control group on the survival of cirrhotic patients with ascites. Findings disclosed a similar mortality in refractory ascites patients in the 2 groups. It was deduced that there was no difference in the spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and hepato-renal syndrome incidence. Data recommended that nonselective beta-blockers ought not to be routinely withheld in patients with cirrhosis and ascites, even if refractory.
