Nonopioid vs opioid analgesia after hospital discharge following cesarean delivery: A randomized equivalence trial
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 07, 2020
Dinis J, et al. - Researchers investigated the pain score after cesarean delivery in women receiving outpatient nonopioid vs opioid analgesics. In this trial, they performed randomization of 170 women with cesarean delivery to receive either outpatient ibuprofen plus acetaminophen (nonopioid, n = 85) or ibuprofen plus hydrocodone-acetaminophen (opioid, n = 85). Treatments were not identified as equivalent. The nonopioid group had a lower mean pain score (better) 2–4 weeks after cesarean delivery (12.3±19.5 vs 15.9±20.4 mm).
