Nonblanchable erythema for predicting pressure ulcer development: A systematic review with an individual participant data meta-analysis
British Journal of Dermatology Aug 29, 2019
Shi C, et al. - Using individual patient data, researchers ascertained if nonblanchable erythema is an independent prognostic factor for pressure ulcer incidence. To identify longitudinal studies that considered nonblanchable erythema for predicting pressure ulcer risk in any population, an electronic database search in February 2017 was performed. Using the Quality In Prognosis Studies tool, they gathered individual participant data for the included studies and evaluated the risk of bias from these studies. According to findings, the confirmatory and moderate-certainty proof is available for the first time on the connection of nonblanchable erythema with the incidence of pressure ulcer. Individuals with nonblanchable erythema are more prone to develop new pressure ulcers of stage 2 or more severe within 28 days than individuals without nonblanchable erythema, irrespective of age, baseline pressure ulcer risk or received support surfaces.
