Mantovani A, et al. - In this systematic review, experts sought to quantify the magnitude of the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and risk of incident chronic kidney disease (CKD). They demonstrated that NAFLD (detected by biochemistry, fatty liver index or ultrasonography) was correlated with an almost 40% increase in the long-term risk of incident CKD. The observational nature of the eligible studies, however, did not allow for proving causality.
