Non-tunneled vs tunneled dialysis catheters for acute kidney injury requiring renal replacement therapy: A prospective cohort study
BMC Nephrology Dec 09, 2017
Mendu ML, et al. - Differences in renal replacement delivery and mechanical and infectious outcomes were compared between non-tunneled dialysis catheters (NTDCs) and tunneled dialysis catheters (TDCs) used for initiating renal replacement therapy (RRT) in patients sustaining acute kidney injury in this prospective cohort study. Improved RRT delivery and fewer mechanical complications were reported with TDCs vs NTDCs. Considering initial TDC placement for acute kidney injury requiring renal replacement therapy was recommended when not clinically contraindicated given the potential for improved RRT delivery and outcomes.
