Non-SMC condensin I complex subunit D2 is a prognostic factor in triple-negative breast cancer for the ability to promote cell cycle and enhance invasion

American Journal of Pathology Oct 16, 2019

Zhang Y, Liu F, Zhang C, et al. - The expression of non-SMC condensin I complex subunit D2 (NCAPD2) was investigated in 179 triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) tissues through immunohistochemistry and relations among NCAPD2 expression, clinicopathological characteristics, and the prognosis information of individuals with TNBC were examined in order to assess the prognostic value and biological function of NCAPD2 in TNBC. Examinations of the mRNA expression profiles of 99 TNBC tissues were also done and in three TNBC cell lines, cell biological behaviors were identified during an alteration in NCAPD2. NCAPD2 expression was positively related to lymph node metastasis, poor overall survival, and worse disease-free survival of individuals with TNBC. Besides, knockdown of NCAPD2 could lead to G2/M arrest through the p53 signaling pathway, which resulted in proliferation inhibition, polyploid cell production, and cell apoptosis, and further hindered the invasiveness of TNBC cells. Hence, for the first time, the close association between NCAPD2 and cancer was exhibited, and it was shown that NCAPD2 plays a significant role in TNBC progression and behaves as an independent poor prognostic factor and a possible therapeutic target for TNBC.
