Non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation significantly improves quality of life in patients with persistent postural-perceptual dizziness
Journal of Neurology May 31, 2018
Eren OE, et al. - In this prospective study, experts aspired to explore whether non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) might be a treatment option for patients with persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD). In this analysis, they applied nVNS to patients with treatment-refractory (to the standard therapy) PPPD. They found that nVNS significantly improved quality of life, as measured by the EQ-5D-3L, and depression, as measured by the HADS-D, in the nVNS group, but not in the age- and sex-matched group with standard of care (SOC) treatment. In patients with otherwise refractory PPPD, short-term nVNS was a safe and promising treatment option.
