Non-immunological biomarkers for assessment of villous abnormalities in patients with celiac disease
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Nov 10, 2019
Singh A, Verma AK, Das P, et al. - In treatment naïve patients with celiac disease (CeD) and controls, levels of plasma citrulline, plasma intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP), and serum regenerating gene 1α (Reg1α) were assessed in order to determine the non-immunological biomarkers for evaluation of villous abnormalities in people with celiac disease. Plasma citrulline ≤ 30 μM/L was found out to be the most constant, profoundly reproducible non-invasive biomarker that could prognosticate the presence of villous abnormality and in 78% of people suspected to have CeD, it had the ability for circumventing duodenal biopsies.
