Non-grafted vs grafted sinus lift procedures for implantation in the atrophic maxilla: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Apr 14, 2021
Lie SAN, Claessen RMMA, Leung CAW, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers sought to critically assess the currently existing clinical evidence on the effectiveness of graftless maxillary sinus membrane elevation for implantation in the atrophic posterior maxilla. Two independent researchers followed an unrestricted search protocol until November 2020. The search yielded 2,777 studies. Both the graftless and bone-grafted sinus lift groups had a high overall implant survival rate. The graftless sinus lift group had a significantly lower vertical bone height gain, with a mean difference of −1.73 mm, and a significantly lower bone density, with a mean difference of −94.7 HU. The implant stability quotient values did not vary significantly between the test and control groups.
