Non-cephalosporin perioperative antibiotic regimen and maternal postoperative infection

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jan 19, 2018

Smid MC - Among women undergoing non-elective cesarean delivery (CD) who received antibiotic prophylaxis regimens, either standard (cefazolin) vs. alternative (gentamicin and/or clindamycin) antibiotics, postoperative infections were compared. For prevention of wound infection, alternative prophylactic antibiotics appeared inferior to standard regimens in non-elective CD. Whenever possible, standard antibiotics (cefazolin) should be included for prevention of cesarean wound infections.
