Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 02, 2017
Ilyas I, et al. - This study investigated long-term outcomes of uncemented hip arthroplasty in patients who developed avascular necrosis of the femoral head as a consequence of sickle cell disease. Findings demonstrated that it is safe and effective to perform hip arthroplasty in patients with sickle cell disease, considering high rate of complications associated with this disease and, attainment of a highly successful outcome requires careful preoperative and postoperative planning. Notably, durable long-term results have been achieved with noncemented shells and noncemented stems.
