Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease presence and severity are associated with aortic stiffness beyond abdominal obesity: The ELSA-Brasil
Atherosclerosis May 02, 2019
Harada PH, et al. - In this study involving 7,196 without cardiovascular disease, researchers investigated if non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) presence and severity are related to carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV). Based on ultrasound hepatic attenuation, they categorized NAFLD presence and severity (mild, moderate, and severe). They used a non-invasive validated device (Complior SP, Artech Medicale France) to measure cf-PWV. The investigators found that, in racial/ethnically diverse individuals without cardiovascular disease, NAFLD is linked to aortic stiffness beyond abdominal obesity.
