Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease after liver transplantation in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and cryptogenic cirrhosis: The impact of pretransplant graft steatosis
HPB Aug 25, 2019
Eshraghian A, et al. - Researchers studied nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)'s prevalence and risk factors in patients with NASH and cryptogenic cirrhosis following liver transplantation, focusing on the impact of graft steatosis. Between March 2010 and March 2017, patients with NASH and cryptogenic cirrhosis who had undergone liver transplantation in Shiraz transplant center were involved. Using ultrasonography and transient elastography, NAFLD was diagnosed after liver transplantation. The study sample consisted of 73 patients with NASH and 389 with cryptogenic cirrhosis. After liver transplantation, obesity and posttransplant hyperlipidemia were independent predictors of NAFLD. Findings suggested no association of liver graft steatosis before transplantation with the occurrence of NAFLD after liver transplantation.
