Nomogram for preoperative prediction of microvascular invasion risk in hepatocellular carcinoma
Cancer Management and Research Oct 30, 2019
Deng G, et al. - Researchers intended to predict microvascular invasion (MVI) risk in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prior to surgery by using nomogram. For this purpose, they used a retrospective cohort comprising 513 patients having HCC and admitted at Xiangya Hospital between January 2014 and December 2018. They identified independent risk factors for MVI: tumor size, preoperative AFP level greater than 155 ng/mL and NLR. They built a nomogram including these 3 factors, with the concordance index of 0.71 and well-fitted calibration curves. More benefit was contributed using this nomogram vs the measures that treated all patients or treated none patients, as corroborated by decision curve analysis. Sensitivity and specificity of 61.64% and 71.53%, respectively, and positive predictive value and negative predictive value of 64.13% and 69.31%, respectively, were yielded by the model at the cutoff value of predicted probability ≥ 0.44. In this study, a nomogram for predicting MVI risk preoperatively in HCC patients was established, the clinical application of which will aid in making a better treatment choice.
