Nomogram for predicting the overall survival of patients with inflammatory breast cancer: A SEER-based study
The Breast Aug 29, 2019
Pan X, et al. - Based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program, researchers sought to construct and validate a nomogram to predict the overall survival (OS) of inflammatory breast cancer patients. Random division of the patients into a training set (n = 2,464) and a validation set (n = 1,052) was done. They established a nomogram using the training set. As per the multivariate analysis, significant prognostic factors for the OS were race, age at diagnosis, breast cancer subtype, grade, N stage, M stage, radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. The internally and externally validated Harrell's C-indexes of 0.763 and 0.786, respectively, were estimated. For predictions of the 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS, excellent agreement was noted between the calibration plots. Findings thereby suggest that the nomogram provides accurate and individualized survival predictions.
