Nomogram for predicting diabetes mellitus after the first attack of acute pancreatitis
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Feb 08, 2019
Ma JH, et al. - This is the first study developing a nomogram for prediction of new-onset diabetes mellitus after the first attack of acute pancreatitis (AP). Using demographic data (age, BMI, and duration of hospitalization) and laboratory data (glucose, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride, and cholesterol), 616 patients with first-attack AP were involved. Findings suggested that the nomogram is a potentially clinically useful tool for predicting new-onset diabetes, which is clinically unprecedented at present. Data reported that age, BMI, glucose, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) at admission might predict the development of diabetes mellitus following AP. This finding is not limited to patients with severe AP but is also applicable to patients recovering from mild AP. The nomogram needs to be externally validated.
